1) Submission of Admission Form :
All admissions will be undertaken at the approved study centres of the University. Students will be required to procure Prospectus and Admission forms on deposition of specified fees in the manner to be specified in the admission notification in the leading national dailies. Candidates are to submit the duly filled in application forms at the study centres or the Directorate of the University only wherefrom these are procured.

2) Documents that must be submitted with admission form :
a) Self signed photocopies of marksheets of all the previous public examinations passed;
b) Self signed photocopy of the Admit Card of the Madhyamik / Secondary / Equivalent Examination;
c) Self signed photocopy of the Registration Certificate of the University of Burdwan, (instantly applicable for graduates of this University);
d) Wherever available, duly attested photocopy of the score-card issued by AIMA (of recent MAT) or IIM (of recent CAT). However, candidates not having sat for the CAT may also apply for admission if they are otherwise eligible;
e) Self signed photocopy of the caste certificate (applicable in case of OBC / SC / ST candidates only) and certificate of physically handicapped (in case of physically handicapped candidates);
f) Ten computer printed (or neatly written) stickers / slips of their mailing address;
g) One stamp size (colour / black & white) recent photographs with name and form number written on the back. This photograph will not be attested by anybody. The photographs and the address stickers have to be submitted in a small envelope writing on it the name and form number.

3) Payment of course fee :
After selection through GD & PI, the course fee for the Semester I is to be deposited by the selected candidate through a Demand Draft.

4) Verification of original documents for finalization of admission :
Until the University is satisfied about a candidate's basic eligibility for admission on verification of his / her ORIGINAL documents, he / she will in no case be admitted into the courses of studies. As are (or may be) instructed in the advertisement notification, candidates will be required to bring with them all the original credentials, i.e. the original marksheets of all the public examination passed, original Admit Card of the Madhyamik / Secondary examinations and such other original documents photocopies of which are enclosed with the admission form. These verifications will be done at the study centres where the admission forms will be submitted.

5) Cancellation of Admission on other ground :
Besides non-fulfilment of basic eligibility criteria, admission of a student may be cancelled by the University (without refund of the course fee deposited) on any of the grounds mentioned below -
a) If any suppression of information or any supply of false information is detected at any stage after admission;
b) For gross misconduct at any stage during his / her studentship;
c) For adoption of unfair means at the examination hall;
d) For other grounds of indiscipline.

6) Withdrawal of Admission :
Candidates themselves may, however, choose to discontinue their studies at any point of time for private reasons and apply for withdrawal or cancellation of their admission / enrolment or for issuance of Outward Migration Certificate. While the University may not object to granting any such prayer, no claim for refund of course fee will be entertained in any case as per University rules.

1) Migration and Registration of other-University students :
All candidates admitted into the courses have to be compulsorily registered at the University of Burdwan. Candidates are, therefore, advised to note the following and act accordingly.

Graduates of the University of Burdwan who have not by this time migrated to other Universities or institutes for further studies or otherwise, will not be required to register themselves once more. They will enclose the photocopy of the Registration Certificate of the University of Burdwan.

But students from other universities have to compulsorily get themselves registered under this University by the time as may be specified through the study centres, failing which their admission is liable to be cancelled.

2) Steps :
Students should wait to receive the Enrolment Card of the University. After obtaining it they will have to apply in the prescribed form to be procured from the study centres on payment of Rs.130/- (which includes the price of the two forms and the Registration Fee) in form of Demand Draft purchased from any Nationalized Bank favouring "The University of Burdwan" payable at Burdwan. The duly filled in form has to be submitted at the study centre along with necessary documents.

3) Documents that must be submitted with migration & registration Form :
Attested copy of the following documents are to be submitted -
a) Photocopy of the latest degree examination passed, i.e. B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com. / B.E. / B.Tech. etc, as the case may be;
b) Photocopy of the Madhyamik / Secondary / Equivalent Examination Admit Card;
c) Photocopy of the Enrolment Card of the University;
d) A duly attested passport size photograph to be affixed on the space provided on the form;

4) Candidates will be required to furnish migration certificate in original from the University last attended. After the registration formalities are completed at the University, students will receive their Registration Certificate from the respective study centres on production of their Enrolment Card as per the schedule to be notified in due course. As they obtain the certificate, they will have to submit a photocopy of it at the study centre itself, writing on it their enrolment number.

5) Restoration of Registration Number of B.U. Candidates :
Burdwan University graduates who meanwhile migrated to any other University for academic reasons, must compulsorily get their original B.U. Registration Number restored in the manner as stipulated in the relevant University rules. However, furnishing Migration Certificate in original from the University last attended will be a must for them also. They must submit the photocopy of the registration certificate at the respective study centres as soon as they receive it in the 'Restored' form.

1) Conduct of Examinations : All examinations will be conducted by the University under the overall control of the Department of Controller of Examinations as per University rules provided that such examinations may be held at centres specified by the University under its overall supervision.

2) Basic condition for appearing at the semester examinations : For each Semester examination candidates will be required to fill up the prescribed form of the University to be issued through the respective study centres. The duly filled in form, along with the examination fee as may be fixed by the University for that Semester examination, has to be submitted at the respective study centres by the stipulated last date. After due checking of the form, Admit Card will be issued for the relevant semester examination through the same study centre.

However, admit card for any semester examination will in no case be issued to any candidate unless the BU Registration certificate and the University Enrolment Card in original are not produced during the issuance of the card.

3) Rules of Examinations :
a) Pattern : The examination is equally divided into 6 semesters and each semester examination after completion of its relevant course work will be held as per schedule to be notified by Controller of Examinations from time to time.

b) Qualifying Marks : In order to pass the Semester Examination a candidate shall have to secure 40% marks in each paper including Internal Assessment, if any.

A candidate registered for such a course shall be awarded a degree only if he / she obtains a minimum of 40% marks in each paper of each semester examination and a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate of all the semesters taken together.

Subject to the conditions stipulated above, a candidate securing 50% marks and above but below 60% marks in the aggregate (all semesters taken together) shall be placed in the 2nd Class and a candidate securing 60% marks and above shall be placed in the 1st Class.

c) Chances of Examination : Paper-wise credit in each semester will be retained in the case of a failed candidate allowing three consecutive chances to pass each relevant semester and the candidate shall have to complete the course within four calendar years from his / her actual session of admission. A candidate having filed in a particular semester may appear at his / her due next higher semester examination along with his / her back paper(s) of earlier semester(s). Non-appearance in any due semester will be counted as a chance availed by a candidate.

The studentship of the candidate will automatically lapse if he / she fails to pass each semester and to complete the course within the prescribed chances as stated above.
In all cases where a candidate has availed himself of two extra chances to make up his / her deficiency in any paper or in the aggregate, qualifying marks obtained by him / her in Internal Assessment / Project Work / Term Paper etc. shall remain unchanged. Appearance in these paper(s) for the second time is not required.

Such candidates, on becoming eligible for the degree in terms of University Regulations shall not be entitled in merit rank or award as may be declared for this course.

d) Cancellation of Exam : A student who appears at any semester examination in part or in full and intends to seek for cancellation of the same may apply for the said purpose to the Controller of Examinations, the University of Burdwan through Director, Distance Education within fifteen days from the last date of completion of the theoretical paper(s) of the said examination.

e) Results :
i) The provisional results of each semester will be published stating only the total obtained by a candidate and the marksheet would be issued showing the marks obtained in each paper.
ii) If a candidate fails to secure qualifying (pass) marks in a particular semester examination his / her result of the next semester examination(s) will be declared as 'SNC' (i.e. Semester Not Cleared).
iii) The final result of a candidate shall be determined on the basis of total marks obtained in all the semesters taken together.

There is no provision for Post-Publication Review (re-assessment) of the answer-scripts. But a candidate may apply for Post-Publication Scrutiny in theoretical papers only in prescribed manner with requisite fees.
