1) Submission of Admission Form :
Candidates are to submit the duly filled in application form at the Directorate only. Applications are not received at the Kolkata Camp Office.

2) Documents that must be submitted with admission form :
a) Evidence of payment of course fee after making it in the manner prescribed in section 18 of the Prospectus;
b) Self signed photocopies of marksheets of all the previous public examinations passed;
c) Self signed photocopy of the Admit Card of the Madhyamik / Secondary Examination / Equivalent Examination;
d) Self signed photocopy of the Registration Certificate of the University of Burdwan, (instantly applicable for graduates of this University);
e) Self signed photocopy of the caste certificate (applicable in case of OBC / SC / ST candidates only) and certificate of physically handicapped (in case of physically handicapped candidates);
f) One stamp size (colour / black & white) unattested recent photographs with name and form number written on the back. This photograph has to be given in the small envelope supplied.

3) What to affix on and return with the form :
a) candidates must affix one recent passport size photograph on the relevant space provided. This has to be attested any Gazetted Officer of the Central or State Government / Principal of any college / Head of any P.G. Department of any University / Head of any recognized school;
b) They must return all the envelopes supplied to them including the large brown envelope in the manner specified after affixing neatly typed / computer-printed stickers of their mailing address on the right hand bottom / marked spaces of the envelopes. They must also mention the subject at the right hand top corner of the large brown envelope;
c) Incomplete applications are liable to be cancelled.

4) Verification of original documents for finalization of admission :
until the University is satisfied about a candidate's basic eligibility for admission on verification of his / her ORIGINAL documents, his / her enrolment remains purely provisional and may be cancelled on the ground of non-fulfilment of basic eligibility criteria. Students will therefore be required to produce the original documents (copies of which are submitted with the application) for verification on such dates as may be arranged and notified. Candidates are advised to note that their admit card for appearing at the examination will in no case be issued until all the original credentials which compulsorily include the B.U. Registration certificate, are verified for finalization of their admission.
The admit card along with examination schedule for appearing at the Part I or at the Part II examination has to be collected by the candidates themselves from the Directorate. These are normally neither sent by post nor handed over to any authorized person.

5) Cancellation of Admission on other ground :
Apart from the non-fulfilment of basic eligibility criteria, admission of a student may be cancelled by the University (without refund of the course fee deposited) on any of the grounds mentioned below -
a) If any suppression of information or any supply of false information is detected at any stage after admission;
b) For gross misconduct;
c) For adoption of unfair means of the examination hall;
d) For other grounds of indiscipline.

6) Withdrawal of Admission :
Candidates themselves may, however, choose to discontinue their studies at any point of time for private reasons and apply for withdrawal or cancellation of their admission / enrolment. While the University may not object to granting any such prayer, no claim for refund of course fee will be entertained in any case as per University rules.

1) Migration and Registration of other-University students :
Other-University students seeking admission to M.A. / M.Com. courses must compulsorily get themselves registered under this University by February 2009 at the latest failing which their admission will be liable to be cancelled.

2) Steps :
After obtaining the Enrolment number from the Directorate they will have to apply in the prescribed forms - one for Inward Migration and the other for regular Registration to be procured from the Directorate.

3) Documents that must be submitted with migration & registration Form :
Attested copy of the following documents are to be submitted -
a) Photocopy of the marksheet of the last examination passed i.e., B.A. / B.Com. / Bridge / M.A. etc. (as the case may be);
b) Photocopy of the Madhyamik / Secondary Examination / Equivalent Examination Admit Card;
c) Photocopy of the Enrolment Card of the Directorate;
d) A duly attested passport size photograph to be affixed on the space provided on the form;
e) Xerox copy of tender part of challan of course fee as document of deposit the requisite fee of Rs. 150/-

4) Candidates will be required to furnish migration certificate in original from the University last attended. Candidates must submit the forms completed in all respects directly and personally at the Directorate. Sending the forms by post to the DDE must be avoided. They are specifically advised to submit the attested photocopy of the Registration Certificate to this Directorate as soon as they obtain it from the University. They must write the Enrolment number on it failing which it would not be possible for the DDE to record their Registration number.

5) Restoration of Registration Number of B.U. Graduates :
Burdwan University graduates who meanwhile migrated to any other University for academic reasons, must compulsorily get their original B.U. Registration Number restored by February 2009 in the manner as stipulated in the relevant University rules. However, furnishing Migration Certificate in original from the University last attended alogn with original B.U. Registration Certificate is a must for them also.They must submit the attested photocopy of the registration certificate to the Directorate as soon as they receive it in the 'Restored' form.

1) Location of examination centre : Examination will centrally be held at Burdwan. The University does not make any arrangement for the candidates' stay at the venue during examination. Candidates must have to arrange their own accommodation.

2) Rules of Examinations :
a) Pattern : The examination for M.A. / M.Com. degree will be taken in two parts : Part I & Part II, each spanning one academic year and held at the end of such academic year.
b) Paper :
In case of M.A. courses, each part consists of 4 papers of 100 marks each.
In case of M.Com. there are 9 papers of 600 marks in total in Part I while Part II course consists of 6 papers 100 marks each and the duration of examination is 4 hours per paper of 100 marks or two papers of 50 marks.
c) Qualifying Marks : The minimum qualifying marks shall be 35% in aggregate both at the Part I and at the Part II stages separately. In order to pass the examination finally, a student must secure 40% marks in the aggregate (Part I and Part II taken together).
d) Chances of Examination : A candidate will get three consecutive chances, calculated from the year of admission to the Part I course, to appear at the examination in Part I or Part II or both as the case may be. In any case, a candidate must complete the course within 4 calendar years.
e) Division / Class : Subject to fulfilment of conditions relating to minumum qualifying marks at Part I and Part II stage, a candidate will be declared to have passed the M.A. / M.Com. examination in the second class if he / she secures 40% or more but less than 60% maks in the aggregate on the combined results of Part I & Part II examinations. Subject to the same condition, if a candidate secures 60% or more marks in the aggregate on the combined results of Part I & Part II examinations, he / she will be declared to have passed the examination in the First Class.
f) Reappearing for Exam :
i) Subject to fulfilment of conditions in respect of PCP / Assignment etc. for Part I & Part II and in respect of admission to Part II course, a candidate, who fails to appear at or apears at but fails to secure the minimum qualifying marks as stipulated at the M.A. / M.Com. Part I examination may sit, or permission, after depositing the reappearing fee, for the Part I examination of the next year along with his / her Part II examinatin. However, he / she may also opt for appearing at the Part I examination only.
ii) If a candidate fails to appear at or appears at but fails to secure qualifying marks at Part I and appears next year at Part I & Part II examinations simultaneously, his / her performance at Part II would not be counted irrespective of marks he / she obtains at Part II in the event he / she fails to secure qualifying marks in Part I. In that case he / she would have to appear de novo at the Part II examination along with the Part I only within his / her stipulated chances.
iii) In the event a candidate qualifies for Part II but fails to obtain minimum qualifying marks at the Part II separately or obtains the qualifying marks at Part II but fails to obtain the minimum pass marks in aggregate on the basis of Part I & Part II taken together, he / she will have to appear, on permission, after depositing the reappearing fee, at the Part II examination(s) only within his / her stipulated chances.
iv) If a candidate fails to pass within the prescribed chances, he / she will have to appear at the Part I & Part II examination de novo on fresh admission to the course subject to fulfilment of usual conditions in respect of fees and eligibility for admission as may be prescribed for that academic session.
g) Cancellation of Exam : A candidate after appearing in part I or Part II examination, may, if he / she so desires, seek cancellation of his / her examinaiton within a fortnight from the completion of the relevant examination. In that event he / she would be required to apply to the Controller of Examinations, the University of Burdwan, through the Director, Distance Education. While he / she may be permitted, on usual conditions stipulated hereabove, to appear at the next year's examination, he / she will lose one chance.

1) No post-publication scrutiny is allowed in M.A. / M.Com. examinations. A candidate may, however, apply in the prescribed form to be obtained from the D.D.E. for Post Publication Review after depositing the prescribed fees.

2) A candidate may apply for Post Publication Review of his / her Answer Script(s) in a maximum number of papers / halves the total marks of which shall not exceed 50% of the full marks of the concerned examination on compliance of usual formalities. For example, if the full marks of the examination is 400 the candidate is entitled to apply for Post Publication Review in a maximum number of papers / halves, the total marks of which shall not exceed 200.

3) However, no such review is allowed in case a candidate fails to secure the stipulated minimum qualifying marks. 35% in aggregate at the Part I stage and at the Part II stage a candidate shall also be eligible to aply for Post Pulbication Review of his / her answer script(s) provided he / she secures at least 35% marks in aggregate of his / her Part II Examination and a minimum of 38% in the aggregate of his / her Part I & Part II Examination taken together.
