1) Submission of Admission Form :
Candidates are to submit the duly filled in application form at the Directorate only. Applications are not received at the Kolkata Camp Office.

2) Documents that must be submitted with admission form :
a) Evidence of payment of course fee after making it in the manner prescribed in section 18 of the Prospectus;
b) Self signed photocopies of marksheets of all the previous public examinations passed;
c) Self signed photocopy of the Admit Card of the Madhyamik / Secondary / Equivalent Examination;
d) Self signed photocopy of the Registration Certificate of the University of Burdwan, (instantly applicable for graduates of this University);
e) Self signed photocopy of the caste certificate (applicable in case of OBC / SC / ST candidates only) and certificate of physically handicapped (in case of physically handicapped candidates);
f) One stamp size (colour / black & white) unattested recent photographs with name and form number written on the back. This photograph has to be given in the small envelope supplied.

3) What to affix on and return with the form :
a) candidates must affix one recent passport size photograph on the relevant space provided. This has to be attested any Gazetted Officer of the Central or State Government / Principal of any college / Head of any P.G. Department of any University / Head of any recognized school;
b) They must return all the envelopes supplied to them including the large brown envelope in the manner specified after affixing neatly typed / computer-printed stickers of their mailing address on the right hand bottom / marked spaces of the envelopes. They must also mention the subject at the right hand top corner of the large brown envelope;
c) Incomplete applications are liable to be cancelled.

4) Verification of original documents for finalization of admission :
until the University is satisfied about a candidate's basic eligibility for admission on verification of his / her ORIGINAL documents, his / her enrolment remains purely provisional and may be cancelled on the ground of non-fulfilment of basic eligibility criteria. Students will therefore be required to produce the original documents (copies of which are submitted with the application) for verification on such dates as may be arranged and notified. Candidates are advised to note that their admit card for appearing at the examination will in no case be issued until all the original credentials which compulsorily include the B.U. Registration certificate, are verified for finalization of their admission.
The admit card along with examination schedule for appearing at the Sem I / Sem II / Sem III / Sem IV examination has to be collected by the candidates themselves from the Directorate. These are normally neither sent by post nor handed over to any authorized person.

5) Cancellation of Admission on other ground :
Apart from the non-fulfilment of basic eligibility criteria, admission of a student may be cancelled by the University (without refund of the course fee deposited) on any of the grounds mentioned below -
a) If any suppression of information or any supply of false information is detected at any stage after admission;
b) For gross misconduct;
c) For adoption of unfair means at the examination hall;
d) For other grounds of indiscipline.

6) Withdrawal of Admission :
Candidates themselves may, however, choose to discontinue their studies at any point of time for private reasons and apply for withdrawal or cancellation of thier admission / enrolment. While the University may not object to granting any such prayer, no claim for refund of course fee will be entertained in any case as per Univeristy rules.

1) Migration and Registration of other-University students :
Other-University students seeking admission to M.A. / M.Sc. in Mathematics programme must compulsorily get themselves registered under this University by December 2008 at the latest failing which their admission will be liable to be cancelled.

2) Steps :
After obtaining the Enrolment number from the Directorate they will have to apply in the prescribed forms - one for Inward Migration and the other for regular Registration to be procured from the Directorate.

3) Documents that must be submitted with migration & registration Form :
Attested copy of the following documents are to be submitted -
a) Photocopy of the marksheet of the last examination passed i.e., B.A. / B.Sc. / Bridge etc. (as the case may be);
b) Photocopy of the Madhyamik / Secondary / Equivalent Examination Admit Card;
c) Photocopy of the Enrolment Card of the Directorate;
d) A duly attested passport size photograph to be affixed on the space provided on the form;
e) Xerox copy of tender part of challan of course fee as document of deposit the requisite fee of Rs. 150/-

4) Candidates will be required to furnish migration certificate in original from the University last attended. Candidates must submit the forms completed in all respects directly and personally at the Directorate. Sending the forms by post to the DDE must be avoided. They are specifically advised to submit the attested photocopy of the Registration Certificate to this Directorate as soon as they obtain it from the University. They must write the Enrolment number on it failing which it would not be possible for the DDE to record their Registration number.

5) Restoration of Registration Number of B.U. Graduates :
Burdwan University graduates who meanwhile migrated to any other University for academic reasons, must compulsorily get their original B.U. Registration Number restored by December 2008 for Mathematics Programme in the manner as stipulated in the relevant University rules. However, furnishing Migration Certificate in original from the University last attended alogn with original B.U. Registration Certificate is a must for them also. They must submit the attested photocopy of the registration certificate to the Directorate as soon as they receive it in the 'Restored' form.

1) Location of examination centre : Examination will centrally be held at Burdwan. The University does not make any arrangement for the candidates' stay at the venue during examination. Candidates must have to arrange their own accommodation.

2) Rules of Examinations :
a) Pattern : The examination for M.A. / M.Sc. is equally divided into 4 semesters and each semester examination after completion of its relevant course work will be held as per schedule to be notified by Controller of Examinations from time to time.
b) Paper : Each semester consists of five papers of 50 marks (of which 5 marks for Internal Assessment) each.
c) Qualifying Marks : The pass marks for each theoretical / practical / project paper & term paper including allied viva-voce, if any, shall be 35%. Credit will be retained paper-wise with the prescribed chances in each semester.
d) Chances of Examination : A candidate shall get three consecutive chances including the original one to appear in a semester, within a total period of three years calculated from the year of admission to the course during which he / she has to complete the course. The chance to availed of by the candidate shall be deemed to have lapsed. The result of 4th Semester (Final) examination shall be kept withheld (RW) unless a candidate has cleared all the previous semesters.
e) Reappearing for Exam :
i) A candidate may avail of the benefits of re-appearing in a maximum number of 50% of theoretical papers in any semester examination for improvement of results once only in the immediately succeeding year provided chance remains and the marks of the said examination would be final and binding.
ii) The prayer for Post Publication Review (PPR) of answer scripts of the re-appeared semester examinations (Improvement) will not be allowed. However, in 4th Semester (Final) examination any lowering of marks as a consequence of the results of Improvement / Post Publication Review (PPR) will not affect the final results status of the candidate i.e., 1st Class / 2nd Class / 55% in aggregate declared earlier.
iii) Subject to fulfillment of the conditions stipulated, in the relevant 'Regulation' a student who does not register himself / herself for reappearing at any semester examination or fails to appear at the examination, or appears at but fails to secure the minimum qualifying marks as stipulated in any semester examinations may be permitted to continue studies in the next semester(s) as well as to appear at his / her due semester(s) examination within the prescribed chances along with reappearing at the back semester(s) examinations if any, provided chance remains after obtaining permission and submission of reappearance fees.
iv) If a candidate after qualifying his / her 4th (Final) Semester examination, clears his / her any previous back semester examinations within the prescribed chances, he / she clears his / her back semester.
f) Cancellation of Exam :
i) A student who appears at any semester examination in part or in full and intends to seek for cancellation of the same may apply for the said purpose to the Controller of Examinations, the University of Burdwan through Director, Distance Education within fifteen days from the last date of completion of the theoretical paper(s) of the said examination.
ii) In that case the entire examination including practical paper(s), if any would be treated as cancelled. He / she may be permitted to appear at the relevant would be treated as cancelled. He / she may permitted to appear at the relevant semester examination afresh in the succeeding year(s) if chance remains after obtaining permission from the Controller of Examinations.
c) Results :
i) The provisional results of each semester will be published stating only the total obtained by a candidate and the marksheet would be issued showing the marks obtained in each paper.
ii) If a candidate fails to secure qualifying (pass) marks in a particular semester examination his / her result of the next semester examination(s) will be declared as 'SNC' (i.e. Semester Not Cleared).
iii) The final result of a candidate shall be determined on the basis of total marks obtained in all the semesters taken together.

1) A candidate may apply for Post Publication Review of his / her theoretical answer scripts in a maximum number of 50% of total theoretical papers appeared in each semester in the prescribed form and manner and on submission of requisite fees. But he / she must have to secure a minimum aggregate of 35% of the total marks in theoretical part of the particular semester examination.

2) There will be no scope of Post-Publication Review of practical paper(s) / Term Paper(s) / Project Paper(s) / Internal Assessment / Viva-voce / Field Report / Survey Report, if any.

3) Under no circumstances fees for the Post Publicaiton Review once paid be refunded.

4) A candidate after submission of prescribed application form for Post Publication Review of his / her answer script(s) in a semester will not be allowed to appear at the "Repeat Examination" for the paper(s) asked for Post Publication Review in the next year. In that case his / her Repeat Examination of the paper(s) will be treated as cancelled.

5) For each paper, a requisite fee is to be deposited at the counter of State Bank of India, DDE Complex, Golapbag, Burdwan through Challan to be supplied by the Directorate. Outstation candidates may enclose Demand Draft of the same amount drawn in favour of the "Directorate of Distance Education, The University of Burdwan" payable at SBI, Golapbag Branch, Burdwan.

6) Acceptance of any change in marks (either increase or decrease) on Post Publication review result as per rules will be binding to the candidate concerned.

7) Application in any photocopy of the prescribed form will not be accepted in any case.
