  • Director's Message
  • : 
    Since the inception of UGC-Academic Staff College, University of Burdwan, in June, 1989, it has organized 94 Orientation Programmes, 227 Refresher Courses and 15 Short Term Courses. The establishment of UGC-ASC has opened up a new dimension towards achieving high quality of education through upgradation of knowledge and skill of college and university teachers. We are inviting resource persons from renowned institutes from the State of West Bengal and other states of the country. Academic Staff College creates an invisible bonding of friendship and scholarly exchange with the participants, thereby fostering their mental attachment with the Academic Staff College. This gives us hope and courage to conduct the courses smoothly. The natural beautiful ambience of Golapbag Campus enriches and refreshes the learner's mind who comes to Academic Staff College to fulfill his/her assignment related to his career advancement.

     
  • Functions of ASC
  • : 
    Generally, ASC is entrusted with conducting Orientation Programmes, Refresher Courses, Summer School, Winter School, Short term Courses, Workshop for Academic Administrators, Principal's Meet and Interaction Program for Research Scholars. ASC, B.U. specially organizes lectures on Research Methodology and use of Open Access Resources and Open Source Software by conducting different courses. Teachers from across disciplines (i.e. Arts, Social Science, Science & Engineering) are being benefitted by using these resources. Moreover ASC regularly publishes edited books with ISBN number and ACADEMY newsletter on the basis of different courses conducted by Academic Staff College.

     
  • Eligibility
  • : 
    Applications on prescribed form only obtainable from Burdwan University website (www.buruniv.ac.in) duly forwarded by the Principal of the College/Head of the Department, Dean of the Faculty, Registrar are invited from College/University Assistant Professors (GR I , II & III), Associate Professors for the following Refresher Courses (21 days), Orientation Programmes (28 days), Summer & Winter Schools (21 days) and Short Term Courses (2 to 6 days).Faculties working in the Universities and Colleges , which are included under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, even though may not yet be fit under 12 (B) of the UGC Act are eligible to participate. It has also been decided that the teachers of colleges, which do not come within the purview of Section 2(f), but are affiliated to a University and serving at least two years uninterruptedly, are permitted to participate.

    The temporary , ad hoc , part time and contractual teachers (also from Private colleges) who have been teaching for at least two academic sessions in an institution which is affiliated to a university for at least two years may be allowed to participate in the Orientation Programme / Refresher Course / Summer & Winter Schools to enhance their skills.

    Refresher Courses (RC) are open for participants having an Orientation Programme (OP) as pre-requisite qualification. However, in exceptional cases, a teacher may be allowed to complete a RC prior to completion of an OP. Also there should be a minimum gap of one-year between two courses subject to relaxation as per UGC rules.

    Orientation Programmes (OP), are open for newly appointed teachers having an experience of six years of continuous service and all those teachers who require orientation programme for getting higher grade may also apply.

    Summer & Winter Schools are open to all teachers (i.e. permanent, temporary, ad-hoc, part-time and contractual) whosoever is willing to participate subject to stream variation for either a Summer or a Winter School (Science/Arts/Humanities). According to UGC guidelines, the certificate issued to the participants will be considered equivalent to one Orientation Programme or one Refresher Course for CAS.

    Short Term Courses are open for only senior faculty members having at least 10 years of teaching experience.

  • Selection Criteria
  • : 
    1. The selection of candidates, in each category will be on the basis of seniority i.e. length of service in the cadre from amongst the eligible candidates whose applications are complete in all respects.

    2. 75% participants are drawn from the institutions falling within West Bengal and up to 25% are taken from other states to promote national integration as per UGC Guidelines. In case sufficient number is not available within the state i.e. West Bengal, the ASC takes participants from other states.

    3. A list of eligible candidates is prepared and uploaded in the website, normally one month before the commencement of the course.

     
  • Library Facilities
  • : 
    The Academic Staff College has built-up a small useful library for the use of participants as well as university teachers and research fellows. It has 3179 volumes of books and some useful periodicals. The reading room consists of internet enabled computer facility which is well connected with the Central Library. Access to E-Journals and Databases can be available under the INFLIBNET's UGC-Infonet Digital Library Consortium. Emphasis is given on the use of peer reviewed open access resources available in the web and different lectures are conducted by the Academic Staff College for this purpose. Participants have access to the Central Library on the main campus of the university also. The Wi-Fi Connectivity in the library enables the user to browse the internet without any interruption.

  • Lodging Arrangement
  • : 
    The Guest House is situated at Tarabag Residential Complex which is three kilometers apart from the Burdwan Railway Station. The natural environment of Tarabag Guest House is magnificent and the infrastructure provided by our Guest House is excellent. According to UGC guidelines those who will stay at the accommodation arranged by ASC will not get any allowance for their board & lodging. Those who will not take ASC arranged accommodation facility, will get Rs 250 per day as D.A as per rules. Participants are requested to stay without any companion in the accommodation arranged by ASC.

     
  • Important Visiting Places around Academic Staff College
  • : 
    The area of University of Burdwan is one third of the Burdwan town. The place in which the University is situated (both Academic and Administrative unit) now, was actually donated by the Maharaja of Burdwan.

    The River Damodar flows over the western region of Burdwan town and creates a natural beauty on the bank of Damodar when the sun rises and sun sets each and every day. The Ramnabagan Reserved Forest is just on the threshold of the Institution and it is very refreshing for the visitors.

    Burdwan is an ancient place with historical values. There are also many visiting places around the Burdwan town viz. Meghnad Saha Planetarium ,Science Centre, Golapbag, Rajbati, Sarbamangala Temple , Birhata kali Temple, The Curzon Gate, Kankaleshwari Kalibari, Bardhamaneshwar Shiva , The Burial of Sher Afghan, Kamalakanta Kalibari, Sonar Kalibari, Khawaja Anwar Berh (Nababbari), 108 Shiv Mandir near Nababhat etc. Anyone can visit these sites by town service buses or a rickshaw.
